Waterfront
Town Lake, Lake Austin and Lake
Travis...Three different lakes all within Austin for you to sun, ski,
sail or possibly even enjoy a waterfront home.
There are also
several rivers and many properties in Central Texas have creeks
running alongside them. Imagine sipping your morning coffee within
feet of the water or enjoying a day on the lake while docking right
from your home. Many different communities span the shorelines of
these lakes and rivers. Austin Real Estate Advocates can help you
find the perfect waterfront home.
If you are looking for an escape
from the city, the Highland Lakes are an ideal place. Marble Falls,
Llano and Horseshoe Bay have beautiful waterfront homes and
communities. You can also find smaller homesteads such as bungalows
and condominiums, perfect for a couple or a family weekend retreat.
Rivers
The Colorado River runs
through the city, providing the space for beautiful bridges and
wonderful scenery. Two dams denote the up- and downstream sections of
the river within Austin.
The Pedernales River and
Hamilton Creek meet at the Hamilton Pool, formed thousands of
years ago when a cave over an underground river collapsed and created
a swimming hole and 45-foot waterfall.
The San Gabriel River
flows through San Gabriel Park in Georgetown, just north of Austin.
With the river dammed off, a perfect swimming hole awaits lap
swimmers. For those ready for a more daredevil experience, the Blue
Hole permits cliff diving.
Town Lake
The Town Lake Metropolitan Parks
extend along the banks of the Colorado River from the Tom Miller Dam
on the west to the Colorado River Park on the east and contains 10.1
miles of hiking and biking trails. The lake offers the opportunity
for sailors, rowers, canoers, and kayakers to practice their skills
and offers excellent picnic and concert watching areas for those
looking for something a little more low key. Among the favorite
swimming spots is located next to Zilker Park: Barton Springs Pool,
which remains a chilly 68 degrees year round.

Lake Metropolitan Parks , click here.
Lake Austin
Just west of the city lies Lake
Austin. Logistically, the lake offers flood control and is a source
of electricity. Emma Long Metropolitan Park borders its northeast
shore and offers plenty of opportunities for recreation with a sandy
beach, volleyball courts, designated fishing areas and a designated
swimming area. Anglers have great success catching largemouth bass;
other species fished for include Triploid Grass Carp (requires a
permit), catfish and sunfish.

Lake Travis
The largest of the seven
Highland Lakes, the 65 miles of Lake Travis sits in both Travis and
Burnet County. The water level varies greatly, as its main purpose is
flood control, but that does not inhibit recreational visitors from
frequenting the lake. People travel from all over central Texas to
scuba dive, swim, boat, camp out and fish at this lake. Catfish,
sunfish, and four types of bass populate its waters.
